Commonly asked questions regarding my practice and therapy in general

My practice FAQs

What do you charge and do you take insurance?

I am in-network with United Healthcare and will be adding other insurances over time - feel free to check back here or email me to inquire.

I am currently charging $150 for a 55 minute telehealth session and accept most major credit cards for payment. I can also accept HSA/FSA cards. I am happy to provide you with a super bill if you wish to seek reimbursement from your provider through your out-of-network benefits.

when do you offer appointments?

My hours of operations are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10am-3pm. Please note that I cannot offer crisis/after hour support. If you are having a crisis and need immediate assistance, please call 911 or go to your local emergency room.

since this is teletherapy, can you offer services anywhere?

No - I am licensed to practice in the states of California, Oregon, and Washington, and so can only see clients who live in one of those two states.

how do video sessions work?

I use a secure and HIPAA compliant platform called Theranest for our video sessions. Every week you will receive a secure URL from me where you can sign into our telehealth session at our scheduled time. With Theranest, you will also be able to create a client profile where you can see your upcoming appointments, securely provide payment information, and send messages to me. If you are using your insurance to see me through Alma, we will use Alma’s telehealth platform.

I require that you have a private space for your video sessions and that you not engage in therapy while doing a distracting task, such as driving your vehicle.

general FAQs

what is therapy?

Therapy is about reducing your suffering and helping you take effective, positive action in your life. During therapy I may offer different techniques and suggestions to help you reach your goals. Therapy can be overwhelming at times as you learn more about yourself, and perhaps confront emotions and thoughts you have been trying to avoid. I am here to provide you a supportive and compassionate space to do this challenging but important self-work.

How do I know if therapy will be worth it?

Approaching therapy with an open mind gives you your best chance of success. There is an abundance of research that tells us that therapy helps people - however, the most important factor for successful therapy is a good fit between the client and the therapist! If we are not a good fit, that does not mean therapy won’t work for you - it just means that a different therapist could be the next step.

will i be in therapy forever?

No! Often therapy comes to a natural end as goals are achieved - and even if you end therapy, you can always return in the future if needed. Some people attend therapy for just a few sessions. Other people find that longer term therapy is an opportunity to dig deeper.
